TWO CENT PIECE MINTAGE
1864-1873
1864 TWO CENT PIECE SMALL MOTTO VALUE
The Two-Cent Piece was first struck in 1864 and lasted till 1873 with the 1873 being a Proof coin. Mint State coins are readily available in the years 1864 and 1865 and the availability of mint state coins falls dramatically in the remaining years. As for the year 1864, there are 2 varieties, a Large Motto and a Small Motto, with the Small Motto being considered rare. Over the past century, most Two Cent Pieces have been cleaned or colored, with original color coins being a small amount of remaining Two Cent Pieces. Cleaned coins reduce Two Cent Piece Values dramatically. Original RED color copper coins have much higher Two Cent Piece Values. Key dates are the 1864 Small Motto and the 1867 Double Die Obverse.
