Today I'm going to show you how to list rare coins for sale on the website Land of Coins.com. I will go to the computer screen and show you step by step how you can list your rare coins.
First, go to www.landofcoins.com and sign in. You will have to register if you have not already. After you log in with your user name and password, click the sell tab on the navigation bar. The sell tab will bring you to the rare coin category page. Click what type of rare coin your selling. Nickel, dime, half dollar, etc. Next, go below and select the subcategory type of the rare coin. Draped Bust, Indian head, Jefferson, Mercury, etc.
For example, I'm going to list for auction an Indian Head Small Cent. In the first category we will click small cents and in the subcategory click Indian Head Cents 1859 to 1909. And then click finalize category and it will bring you to the rare coin information input page.
The information input page is where you input the year and name of the coin and the description of the coin such as PCGS graded AU50. For example, our coin we will name 1897 Indian head cent graded PCGS MS65 RED. In the subtitle, I just like to put the grade PCGS MS65 RED and for the description we will put "very nice coin graded PCGS MS65 RED". That's good enough for me for the description, but you can be as elaborate as you like.
After the name and description, you can now add your photos. You can add up to 5 photos per rare coin listing. Under photo gallery, click upload pictures and then in the box click "add files". You can now see and select from you computer up to 5 photos of the coin. For encapsulted graded coins we recommend full picture of the front and back of the case and then front and back of close up coin picture. When you finish selecting the images you want, click "start upload" and the images will upload to the website. (If you want to delete an image, click the red circle next to the image to delete)
After completed the uploading, click "close page now" at the bottom of the page.
Next, scroll down to the pricing structure. At the auction type line, click standard auction. Then at item quantity, place how many coins are in the lot. Most of the time it will be 1 coin.
For pricing, there are 2 ways to sell a rare coin online. You can select a Buy it Now price or you can select an auction style price sale.
The first way, the "Buy it Now" feature, allows you to sell your rare coins at a fixed prices. This is a great option if you want to make sure you get a certain price for your coin. The majority of rare coin online sales are done with the Buy it Now feature. To do the Buy it Now feature click on the BUY it Now only selection on the pricing line option. (Your coins will not use the auction feature).
For the Auction feature you will have to place your starting price and the time allowed to have the auction. For the starting price, this is the price you want your rare coin auction to start at. As an example, lets use our coin, which is an Indian head cent MS65 RED. Let's start the price at five hundred and fifty dollars. After all it is a MS65 RED Indian head cent! Then we can have what is called a reserve price. Reserve pricing is what the minimum price you will sell the coin at. If the auction does not go over the reserve price, it does not sell. We will put the reserve for our coin at $950. A note about why the reserve price is sometimes used at coin auctions. The reason is because by having a low starting price (below the reserve price) we will get more people looking at the coin. At the begining of any rare coin online auction, many people will add the coins that have low starting prices to their watch list to reveiw them later towards the end of the auction. The whole idea of low starting price is to get as many people to keep looking at your coins. In the end it means you'll receive the best price because many people were watching it. Reserve price is not required. You can start your coin auction at the lowest price you will accept, but you may not have many people to adding it to their watch list.
Last step is to set the time duration for the sale. Whether its Buy it Now or Auction, you have to set a number of days you want to give the listing to sell. It can be a couple of days or it could be 1 month. Also you will have the option of selecting automatic relisting. What I like about automatic relisting is you can put up to 12 times of relisting your auction. For example, say you did not sell a coin in a 2 week selection. Automatic relisting allows you not to have to type the information again to list the coin. It will automatically place the coin to a new 2 week sale. You can select up to 12 times relisting. A 2 week listing with 12 relistings would be 24 weeks in total. That's six months that your coin will be for sale! If doing the 1 month time frame and you select 12 times relisting, thats 1 year of time to sell that rare coin. Longer time means better chance for a buyer to see and buy your coin.
The shipping fee option is the buyer pays shipping or the seller pays shipping. If the buyer pays, you put the shipping price you figured in the appropriate line. If you want to make it easy for the buyer, you can select Seller pays shipping and there will be no charge to the buyer.
Next select paypal check box and continue to submit. (Land of Coins uses paypal only to do transactions. A paypal account is required).
After submiting the information, you will be sent to the review page for your coin sale. Reveiw to make sure all your pictures are showing and that the description and pricing is correct. You have the opourtunity to make any changes by clicking "make changes" which is at the top of the reveiw page. If everything look correct, put you password in and click submit confirm. You should now see "Congratulations your auction listing has been set up. A confirmation email time-stamped with the time and the day of your listing will go to your email". You are finished.
The listing process to sell a rare coin online at Land of Coins take about 5-10 mintues in total time. In just a few times of listing rare coins, you will be ale to finish very quickly! We hope this helps with any questions pertaining to setting up your rare coin auctions. Thank you for reading this article. We wish you happy coin collecting! ......Land of Coins.
