1793 Half Cent. Cohen 3 Variety.

Text version from YouTube video "1793 Half Cent. C-3 (Variety-3) Identify. | Land of Coins .com"

Hi this is Gary from internet coin auction site Land of Coins. The 1793 Half Cent has 4 varieties each with its own characteristics. This is a quick article to help you identify Variety 3.

The Liberty Cap Half Cent Variety 3 is designated by grading companies using the Cohen variety numbers. The variety described below is called the C-3. When getting a coin graded by the grading companies you can request a coin variety designation for an additional $18. At times when looking at 1793 Half Cents for sale, you will see on the coin grading holders a C-1 through C-4 designation. The variety description below is for the C-3.

Reviewing Half Cent history, there is an estimated 1000 1793 Liberty Cap Half Cents. The 4 varieties, each have an estimated 250 in existence. Most are worn circulated grades and Mint State examples are rare at 41 (5%) of the 780 graded coins. We believe the grading numbers are lower because some coins may have been submitted to the grading companies more than once.

When looking at a 1793 Half Cent for sale, to determine if it is a C-3, look for the following characteristics below. Look at the Obverse (front) and Reverse (back). We recommend looking at the other varieties images to compare. I have the links to the other pages at the bottom.
