Rare Coins Copper Color.
How to Determine Brown, Red/Brown, Red.

image

What determines if the color of copper coins is Brown (B), Red/Brown (RB), or Red (R)?

With the PCGS grading company, They determine a coin to be red if it has ninety-five percent or more red copper color showing. The red color of the coin is basically the original copper color with no brown color change on the coin. The rare copper coin should look like it did when it was first minted. If a rare coin has some red showing and also has brown color showing, if a coin has five percent to ninety-five percent of the red color showing, it's going to be considered red/brown. And then brown means less than five percent of the red color showing.

It can be confusing, but really if the coin has less than five percent red it's brown and if it has more than ninety five percent red on the coin it's red. Between five percent to ninety-five percent red on the coin is determined to be red/brown.
